So far the refs are calling EVERYTHING....

In the game I watched I think Walsh had 3 guys with 4 fouls in the first half if I remember correctly.  They were calling hand checking / body checking - everything with the exception of the big men right under the rim.

I do not think this will be good for fans.

I checked the box score.  Walsh finished the game with 4 guys w/ 4 fouls & 1 who fouled out.  It seems a bit unusual to have 5 starters with 4 or more fouls.

I'll start watching games tomorrow.
I'll be interested to see how bad it is, and how/if it changes/evolves throughout the season.
Will the refs adjust to the players, will the players adjust, or both.
As long as the calling is consistent, that's what's most important.
I have a feeling, though, there will be two kinds of refs (not that there aren't, already)...those who call everything, and those who call very little.
If that turns out to be the case, each game will be more of a crap-shoot, than usual.

I haven't watched the game yet (will watch the recording tonight) but in the last OSU game I read that they took more free throws than actual shots.
In the previous game & in the brief bit of the Maryland - UConn game I watched it looked as if players were trying to adjust to the new touch foul rules.

There will definitely be a period of adjustment.
From the few games I've seen, my impressions are:

-It definitely slows the game down...makes it more choppy.  I don't like that...at all.
-Having a viable bench will be more important than ever.
-Players need to hone their free-throw shooting.  It would be absurd, with so many more fouls having the potential to be called, not to have deadly free throw shooters.  (The Cats are probably screwed on this one)

At least last night, one good thing I saw come from the changes was a bunch of Duke players in foul trouble.  That must be new for them.  Heehee

Touch fouls are the most ridiculous calls in the world.

Even when I'm playing pick up games, the only time I ever call a foul is if its dangerous to my own or the other player's health. Or if its a flat out hack when my midget butt gets below the rim. Either way I know hoops is a non contact sport, but touching is over board for no contact.
I post for food or money...thank you
