Freshman watch...
« on: December 21, 2013, 07:06:04 PM »
ESPN has a section where they're keeping a tally of the averages for Points, Rebounds, and Assists posted by the players considered the top 4 Freshmen in college basketball, Jabari Parker (Duke), Aaron Gordon(Zona), Andrew Wiggins(Kansas), and Julius Randle(Kentucky).  I'll try and update them every once-in-a-while.  It could be interesting.
As of today...

Jabari Parker     PTS   REB   AST
                       22.1   7.8   1.9

Aaron Gordon     PTS   REB   AST
                        12.8   7.8   1.5

Andrew Wiggins   PTS    REB   AST
                         15.9    5.9   1.2

Julius Randle      PTS   REB   AST
                        17.2   11.4   2.0

As a Kentucky fan, I'm happy Randle is doing great this year.  He is managing to score at a good clip even though he is constantly being double or even triple teamed.  If he can just perfect a little 10-12 foot shot he could be one of the best players to come out of UK in a long time.

I'm giving Randle the early nod for NPOY. I mean 9 double doubles in 12 games is almost unheard of for a freshman.

What are their freethrow percentages I wonder?
Doesn't seem like anybody can shoot those consistently this season.

Jabari is struggling lately.
He is forcing things too much, inside and out.

Haven't got to watch Wiggins lately.
I still say Randle is in the lead.

It's about 6 weeks since I posted the first stats.
Here's how things stand, today.
They've added a couple of guys, but the 4 still remain.

Jabari Parker     PTS   REB   AST
                      18.8   8.1   1.3

Tyler Ennis        PTS   REB   AST
                       12.3   3.4   5.4

Andrew Wiggins         PTS   REB   AST
                               16.5   6.1   1.5

Julius Randle      PTS   REB   AST
                        16.1   10.2   1.7

Aaron Gordon    PTS   REB   AST
                       12.0   7.9   1.5

Joel Embiid PTS   REB   AST
                11.4   7.6   1.4

Parker and Ennis face off tonight.
Wiggins and Embiid are in the 2nd half against Texas, right now,
And Gordon plays later.
