Who scored the winning run in Harvey Haddix's 12 inning perfect game?

We all know Joe DiMaggio has the all time consecutive games with a hit at 56.... but who holds the all-time consecutive game streak for reaching base safely?

(As info, during the 56 game hitting streak, his streak of reaching base safely was 74.. good for 2nd place)

What is the minimum number of pitches needed to complete an inning?

Gonna get duped here I presume...

3 pitches in the top half.. 3 piches in the bottom half.. That's 6 pitches. Unless it's the 9th and the home team leads. Then it'd be 3.

Thinking of ways to get around this like batting-out-of-order... but a pitch still needs to be thrown.

The answer is 6 (unless it's the 9th and home team leads)

Yeah, it's a trick question.  The answer is 2.

Here is how it goes....First pitch, batter hits a triple (or gets on 3rd somehow).  On the next pitch, the runner attempts to steal home, and the batter interferes with the play at the plate.  The result is the runner must return to third base, the batter is out, and most importantly, the pitch does not count.  repeat 2 more times, and a half inning can be completed with only 1 official pitch thrown.

You can stretch it out and have an official game with only 10 pitches thrown.  (4 1/2 inning rain out, with one extra pitch resulting in a run for the home team).

Incorrect, my friend.

In this situation, the runner is out and the batter remains at the plate. With 2 outs, yes, he is out. Less than 2 outs, runner is out and the batter remains.

Got that one right on my yearly ump quiz!!

Found this one  not sure of rule

"One. An illegal pitch is ruled a "Ball" but is not counted as a pitch. A pitcher could throw 4 illegal pitches to 2 consecutive batters. There would then be men on first and second without an official pitch being recorded. The next batter could then hit into a triple play."

I had heard the opposite.  I just went to look it up, and found this:

Notwithstanding Rule 6.02(c), if the batter intentionally leaves the batter’s box and delays play, and none of the exceptions listed in Rule 6.02(d)(1)(i) through (viii) applies, the umpire shall award a strike without the pitcher having to deliver the pitch. The ball is dead, and no runners may advance. The umpire shall award additional strikes, without the pitcher having to deliver the pitch, if the batter remains outside the batter’s box and further delays play.

This means that a batter can strike out without a pitch being thrown.  An entire game could be played and won on a single pitch.

Oh, and we could both be right, depending on how the interference occurred.

(c) He interferes with the catcher’s fielding or throwing by stepping out of the batter’s box or making any other movement that hinders the catcher’s play at home base. EXCEPTION: Batter is not out if any runner attempting to advance is put out, or if runner trying to score is called out for batter’s interference.
Rule 6.06(c) Comment: If the batter interferes with the catcher, the plate umpire shall call “interference.” The batter is out and the ball dead. No player may advance on such interference (offensive interference) and all runners must return to the last base that was, in the judgment of the umpire, legally touched at the time of the interference.

This line here is the key. Batter is not out if runner is trying to score is called out for batters interference. Batter remains if the runner was trying to score.

GREAT DISCUSSION!! LOVE IT!!

It's tricky for sure. I've been umping for I guess 8 or 9 years now and interference / obstuction is the #1 most difficult call. It's always a nightmare.
