The 3rd Annual NFL Pickem' vs The Spread Challenge (2014-15')
« on: August 08, 2014, 01:53:46 PM »
Welcome to the 3rd annual NFL pick'em vs. the spread challenge!!!

For those that played last year or two, you know this the toughest pick'em game on the planet!!!
The object is to have more correct picks than anyone else (obviously), while picking against the spread that Vegas sets. (I will be using "scoresandodds.com") So, whatever the spread is currently at on Tuesday mornings is the spread I will use.
Last season I made sure every spread had a half point to it, to avoid having ties or a push, if you will. I will not be doing that this year. It will be whatever "scoresandodds" has on Tuesday morning.

There will be BIG NGS bucks to be won every week all the way through, including the Super Bowl.

Here are the rules...

Copy and paste the pick list I provide (on this thread) and enter your pick next to that game. If you want to change a pick, you may change any pick on any game that has not started yet, but, make the change in a seperate post.
DO NOT MODIFY OR EDIT YOUR PICKS AFTER THE THURSDAY GAME HAS KICKED OFF. THIS PREVENTS ANY POSSIBLE WAY OF CHEATING.

For the playoffs, over/unders and prop picks will be added to make the playoffs more challenging.

There will also be a tiebreaker every week, to help avoid as few ties as possible.
For the tiebreaker you will asked to pick the total points for the Monday night game. Whoever is closest to that total, will win that week. During playoff weeks, the last game to kickoff, will be the tiebreaker game.

One of the elements to this challenge will be the "Lock of the week".
Every week you will be asked to pick 1 game as your best bet to win (cover).
This is just an NGS bucks bonus prize, and doesn't give you an extra win or loss.

The NGS bucks prize payouts will be:

Regular season (weekly):  1st place: $200
                                      2nd place: $100
                                      3rd place: $50
                                      Lock of the week: $25

Regular season (overall): 1st place: $5,000
                                      2nd place: $2,500
                                      3rd place: $1,000

Playoffs (weekly) 1st place: $500
                          2nd place: $250
                          3rd place: $100
                          Lock of the week: $50

Playoffs (overall) 1st place: $7,500
                         2nd place: $5,000
                         3rd place: $2,500

Extra bonus: * If a poster makes all their picks each week and doesn't place and doesn't win prize money they get $250 at the end of the season and playoff.

Our defending regular season champion from last season is... Shakes (Better known as Chief Crazy)

Our defending playoff champion from last season is... River Rat (Sounds like a texas holdem' poker donkey)

Please keep in mind that you will probably have a losing record by the end of the season. But, don't let that discourage you, this is a whole different animal than picking all the games straight up.

Smack/trash talk is encouraged and appreciated! All in good taste of course.

Sooo...let's gamble!!!

Also, as a general rule, pay no attention to the posters named BC or Peter Gozinbutshecantfeelit.

I feel like the Steelers.  A .500 season would be great.
