So here we go again for yet another dip into the Nascar gene pool and see what comes out. As it turns out, Nascar history has not been kind to the "chips off the old block." Chase Elliott fans?? Sorry, but here's a brief history.

                              WINS             CHAMPIONSHIPS

Richard Petty            200                        7
Kyle petty                   8                         0

Buck Baker                46                        2
Buddy Baker              19                        0

Coco Marlin                  0                       0
Sterling marlin            10                       0

Ned Jarred                  50                       2
Dale Jarred                 32                       1

Bill Elliott                    44                       1
Chase Elliott                ??                       ?

I guess the old farts rule in Nascar !! wagfing greg1 wagfing greg1

And just a little off topic. While I was looking up these stats, I saw something interesting.

Which Nascar driver has the won the most career races WITHOUT winning a championship ?????  Its not who you'd think.

Well just thinking, two came to my mind...
I was thinking about a Hendrick driver and I know Geoff Bodine won a lot of races, maybe 50 or so....
Then Junior Johnson, the man that discovered the draft and one of the premier owners...
But yeah Mark Martin always comes to mind but he certainly isn't alone by far as far as top drivers to never win the title.

But in the chase era as we know there should always be an asterisk to who raced in the chase era because to compare the older drivers with today's circus show just isn't fair at all. The chase altered history, just look at Jeff Gordon for that stat. he'd be tied with Earnhardt and Petty if not for the chase, heck Rowdy and Dale Jr. have even been ripped off of a title because of the side show. Just a thought. Spikes.

I would agree. You can't compare the number of race wins these guys have. Back in the day, Nascar was nothing more than a traveling road show. They ran 50-60 races a year. Now? 36. And the competition level is a lot more equal today. No one is EVER going to win 200 races again. So, How do we compare? Championships? I think that would be a good indicator of greatness. But, now with this (as you call it) "circus" they have, even those waters are beginning to muddy up.

OH. The answer is one of those 3 drivers that you mentioned.

The new chase format that crowns a driver who finishes ahead of 3 others in one race to win is by far the worst idea. My guy won a championship thanks to that format, but it still is a crappy way to crown a champ.
The downside of being better than everyone else is that people tend to assume you're pretentious.

I'm thinking Mark Martin.  I was a fan of his for years and was always frustrated that he seemed to have good seasons, but always found a way to come up short.

Went out last night and got really wasted.
I woke up in the middle of the night next to some chick who was snoring and farting, so I knew I made it home OK.

Some guy named Earnhart had something to do with that. And I'm with you. If someone had asked me that question a few days ago, I would have said Mark Martin also. But,, NO!! It's Junior Johnson. 50 all time wins. Mark Martain ?? 40.

And if those win numbers sound a little low to you ?? Keep in mind that ONLY 184 people have EVER won a Nascar Cup race. YUP. That's right..... ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FOUR !!!!!!!!!!

I don't believe this.
A) I forgot the Earnharts
B) No one caught it and kicked my butt for it

Dale Earnhart      76      7
Junior                 23      0

I was thinking because it doesn't always go to the elder.
