So where will Matt end up?
« on: July 11, 2017, 11:16:26 AM »
Will he get shoved into retirement like the Biff or will someone sign him?

Any educated/uneducated guesses ?

I can't believe they struggle getting sponsors for him. Must be a ton of info we haven't heard........yet

He'll be in either the 88 or 5 next year driving for Hendrick.

That would be my guess.

Ratty has an option there with the 88, however Kahne is signed through 2018, so unless Hendrick wants to deal with a buyout the 5 will still be KK's.

Some have suggested that he would end up switching rides with Erik Jones, so Matt would end up with FRR.

I think Truex and Kenseth at FRR would be a dangerous combo....I would have to assume if he doesn't end up there, he will be at Hendrick.  I think FRR has a big issue if they don't get Kenseth into the 77, because there doesn't look to be anyone waiting in the wings that is ready to make the jump to Cup.  I'm just hoping they don't throw someone in the car because they bring sponsorship but can't drive....w/ how far this team has come the last few years, i feel like that would be a step backwards

My only issue with Kenseth going to Hendrick would be that I am not sure that they want to put a driver in the 88 for two to three years.  There is a youth movement going, and I think that Hendrick wants to be part of that.

I don't think it will take more than 1 more year in the Xfinity Series before HMS brings Byron up...so really they seem to be in the market for a 1 year stop gap in the 88 to me

Well, Bowman goes to the 88 car. I thought Byron would take over for JR.

Byron will be in the 5 car before long.

JJ will be the old man with 3 young drivers at Hendrick.
