Having lived in Upstates NY, that cured me of any cold resilience. 10 layers and the wind would cut right through ya, ugh. But i have plenty of fishing trips coming up. One for salmon on the Columbia River and another in Lake Michigan. Hopefully some Sturgeon on the Columbia as well.

I grew up in Wisconsin so I know what cold is lol But sometimes it just doesn't even matter whether you came from the North Pole or Florida, cold is cold.

Humidity is horrible. I would rather have cold and windy that hot humid and sticky.

Last time out (tues),  froze half to death and caught two chain pickerel 20" and 19". Moved the shack over a bit to get the prime real estate on the point too, and damn that shack is heavy!

Supposed to be up into the 20s tomorrow (heat wave!), so Im heading out in the morn.

Those are some good sized pikerals. They aren't much bigger than 15" from what I've heard.

Anyone ever catch any catfish through the ice??

Where on the Columbia River do you fish, Jrnyconts?

I've fished it before for salmon but never for sturgeon.

What a beautiful day it was out there, nice and sunny with NO WIND!! Tomorrow is supposed to be up to near 40 degrees too, so needless to say Im gonna be out there nice and early.

Caught a few yellow perch and 3 more pickerel, two 18 inch and a 19 inch. The 18 inchers couldve been the same fish though. (carnivorous bait eating bastard LOL)

Trying to locate the brown trout at this end of the lake, but no luck yet. Maybe I shoulda stayed put where I was 2 winters ago....

Fog, for salmon Its bouy 10 and pretty close to the mouth.

For sturgeon, Bonneville Dam and, again, Bouy 10

I should be out ther fishing rather than starting massive bon fires, but thats alright. Hopefully I'll be fishing for some wild rainbows in the Mojave Desert in teo weeks and next week either sittng on the ice for some bluegills or dip netting some Bear lake cisco. But things may screw that up.

Great day on the lake today.

Ran for flags quite a bit and caught brook trout, pickeral and yellow perch. (aka eagle food LOL)

Jrnyconts, chain pickeral up here can get to 40 inches or so. The biggest one Ive caught is 28 inches though.

Well its been brutally cold for the last week, but Im finally finding them trout now!

Caught some nice brookies and some "barely legal" brownies, along with the usual pickeral and yellow perch to feed the eagles.

On a side note, I watched a pair of eagles kick the snot out of a huge kingfisher the other day. Very cool.

Has anyone ever fished off of Lake Michigan downtown chicago for salmon? I hear you can get 20lb ones up there when they start running.

Save up and go to Alaska. Its cool that they took Kings and Coho to put in there, but they don't match the pacific kings and cohos.

I guess it all depends on what you have connections to. Me, I have to pay for every little thing when I go up there. Last year I got screwed big time.
