Yeah getting flights at the last minute can HURT!

Have fun, and take extra pillows if you're gonna visit Pete.

Yeah, coach, that sucks and sounds like a real pain in the ass.
Unfortunately, that's how it goes, these days.
It ain't just United, it's pretty much any airline.

The main change has been the whole on-line thing.
Back in the day, you still had to provide copies of boarding passes, cc statements, or whatever, they just expected you call them to find out what info they needed you to provide and to find out the address where you needed to send the stuff.

So, it actually sounds like it's improved over the years.  facepalm

I've haven't done a lot of flying in my life, maybe 10 times total, and this is the 1st time I've had to deal with something like this. Makes me not want to fly again.

The worst part is I'm going through all this to save 56 bucks.
The original tix cost $456, but the transfer fee was $400.
If I'd known what a pain in the ass this was gonna be, I would'a just ordered the new tix, and just not shown up for the other flight on May 26th.

Yeah, I used to do a lot of flying, and I went through a few years where I had to do a bunch of last-minute flights because I had family members dropping like flies.  The first time through the rigamarole was a royal pain, but then I knew what to expect...learned what things to avoid...what questions to ask, etc...so it became much easier.

Because I knew what to expect, there were a couple of times I just said, "F*** it..." getting that 40-50 bucks back just wasn't worth it for the time it took.

In case anyone is curious as to why I'm bashing United Airlines, here is what happened...

When I got the tickets for my mom and I to fly to Orlando for my cousins funeral, I goofed really, really bad. My boss was trying to help me out and sent me a link from Kayak, with this really good deal of $228 a piece on a non-stop flight that left and came back at the exact times I was looking for. However, neither one of us noticed that the flight was actually set for departure on MAY 26th. Somehow I didn't notice that it said May, and neither did she. All I remember seeing was leaving on Monday and coming back on Wednesday.

That was on a Friday that I booked it, and when I got to work that Monday morning, my email confirmation was there, and that's when I saw the mistake we made.

So, I call them up, explain the problem, and of course I can't get it refunded because it's been over 24 hours. I have no problem with that, it was my fault anyway. So, she tells me she can get me a flight out that day day at about the same time, but the tickets are $412 each instead of $228. PLUS, there will be a $200 transfer fee per ticket. OUCH! So, this F***up is gonna cost me a total of $768 more dollars. It is what it is, I F***ed up and I gotta pay the price.

So, yesterday, my credit card statement arrives, and the original 2 tickets of $228 each are on there. No credit has been givin back yet. So, I call them up, wait 25 mins for a human to get on the other end, explain what is going on, and she tells me I have to online to thier site and file a claim for a refund. Not only that, but I would have to send 2 attachments when I fill out the claim. One being a copy of the confirmation, and the other being a copy of my credit card statement showing that those charges are on there.

REALLY??? I asked her, you mean to tell me when I had those canceled and paid $400 worth of transfer fees, that your system doesn't automatically credit me back on the originals??? Or someone doesn't go in there and do it??? I have to make a claim online??? WTF? And how come they didn't tell me that on the phone when I made the switch?

So, I also asked her, what if I didn't have a computer? I said, believe it or not there are people that either can't afford a computer, or a smart phone, or they are old and don't have any interest in owning one, or learning how to use one. She said they could go to a library or use a friends. Really???
I said, there is really no way for y'all to take care of this over the phone? She said no, it must be done online. So, I asked her what her job is. I said, are you just there to direct people to go to your website? I was livid, and continued before she answered and said, what else are you there for, to take out the trash?
I said I wanna talk to your supervisor, and waited 10 more minutes before hanging up because I had to leave.

I filed the claim this morning, so I'm real interested to see how long this refund is gonna take. The site said most CC refunds take a week after it's reviewed. But how long till it even gets reviewed???

F*** THEM!
