I've been thinking a lot about CFB in the light of the Jameis Winston saga and how a lot of folks reverently refer to the positive impact football has on the lives of young men who play the game and found the following:

Robert Maynard Hutchins, president of the University of Chicago back in 1939 when the football team was pretty successful there (Amos Alonzo Stagg's teams), called the idea that the game produced men of good character or instilled a sense of fair play a myth. Indeed, for a college to be a success on the field, he said, it must be something of a scoundrel beyond it.

As much as I love CFB, I'm beginning to think he was right all those years ago.

Never give up.  Never ever give up.

I saw that, Kbur.  I thought Michigan State said they weren't going to run up the score.  angel2

A very nice thoughtful post UMich. As a man and an ex athlete I was and am a gentleman. I used my blessing to be an athlete to be an inspiration to young people and an asset to the institutions that recruited me.Something seems quite wrong with all the issues surfacing in sports

Somebody just tweeted this into the game feed

Melvin Gordon's career average of 8.26 rushing yards per carry ties FBS record (Army's Glenn Davis, 1943-46)

Gordon is a great back KB, no doubt about that. The better news may be that Bowling Green is not a bad team

People need to stop excusing poor judgment and bad behavior.  Twenty-year-olds are MEN responsible for their own choices.  They need to suffer the consequences of their acts, and institutions need to stop enabling them. Just stop.

If any positives can come from the video of Rices' KO of his woman, maybe it will become a last straw moment. Athletes should be as accountable as all of us. Period

As for Winston's issues the same. If I walked out without paying.......

What happened in the 6th?

A Royals player (Perez) failed to tag up and was called out after he thought he scored the go-ahead run.  The Tigers got out of the inning and are now up 3-1 in the top of the 7th.

With the horses already out of the barn, it may be too late for the Royals' bullpen to shut the door.
