Cali's Random Shakespeare Quotes
« on: December 04, 2012, 08:27:04 PM »
As any of you who have posted with me for long enough know, there are times I just can't help myself from spouting off random Shakespeare.  This is one of those times.  I'm sure there will be others, so I made a thread for it.  If you don't like it, don't read it...wouldn't want anyone to hurt their lil brains.

It goes so heavily with my disposition that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory; this most excellent canopy, the air, look you, this brave o'erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with golden fire, why, it appears no other thing to me than a foul and pestilent congregation of vapours. What a piece of work is a man! how noble in reason! How infinite in faculty! in form and moving how express and admirable! in action how like an angel! in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world! the paragon of animals! And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.

hmm1

Perhaps we should list the 7 ages, and put posters with each age!

Bob would be: second childishness and mere oblivion.

There was a time I was working with it so much,
I had to buy the dictionary of all Shakespeare's terms.
It's two very large volumes,
And there's still some stuff that's impossible to figure out.
That said, it is kinda like learning a new language,
At first you have to translate a lot, and it's a pain in the ass,
But then you just kinda start understanding without having to do all the work...
Except for those things no one is gonna ever understand.
That's the stuff that gets cut (I do some editing of the plays for various summer programs around here).

From thereupon do I this body bring.
To tell you who I am were speech in vain,
Because my name as yet makes no great noise.

"Parting is such sweet sorrow..."

As in Kentucky and their AP ranking, perhaps?  :)
If I could start my life all over again, I would be a professional football player, and you damn well better believe I would be a Pittsburgh Steeler.

Except you left out the rest of the line...

"that I shall say good night til it be morrow..."

The "Til it be morrow" being the important part. cali1

CALI, The qoute was from Othello, Iago  said it. The idea of being JANUS  It is a self examination, a study between that of good and that of evil in man. The play refers to Iago as the "honest Iago" something that becomes a question of doubt to the reader.

I took Shakespere in college, it fell under the prerequisite body. Although I aced the course, the professor would not give me an A because as he wrote in his rebutal, I WAS'NT WILLIAM SHAKESPERE "He killed my 4.0 over it. It was my fault though, I should've chosen a different professor.

I guess then, with what the professor used as the crux of his arguement, the qoute itself had a direct corrolation to my situation. funny hunh

Ah... you mean...
"I am not what I am?"

A question of doubt?  There is no question of the irony of Iago being referred to as honest.
His machinations drive the whole play.

I've been fortunate enough to play both Desdemona and Emelia.
I had more fun with Emelia.

He's a plagerist, everyone knows that Archibald Fink was the real author of those writings and even he borrowed a few from Richard Licker
