Carlos Beltran is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Diamondbacks.
Allen Craig will start in right field and Matt Adams will play first base. The Cardinals are likely to feature this alignment often in order to get the 35-year-old Beltran the rest that he needs. Brandon McCarthy is starting for the Diamondbacks against the Cardinals' Lance Lynn.

In-season Projections
Madson (elbow) tosses light bullpen session
Ryan Madson (elbow) threw a light 15-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday afternoon.
It was his first mound workout since he felt discomfort in his surgically-repaired right elbow one week ago. Madson is aiming to join the Angels at some point in May. Ernesto Frieri will continue to close for now and could run away with the job if he has a hot start.

In-season Projections
Kazmir (abdomen) ruled out for Saturday start
Scott Kazmir (abdomen) will not start Saturday.
Kazmir suffered an abdominal strain earlier this week during a team workout and is still dealing with discomfort. He headed back to Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon to undergo an MRI. A fill-in starter for Saturday night's game against the Rays should be announced shortly.

In-season Projections
Ortiz (heels) will begin playing games Monday
David Ortiz (heels) is expected to begin playing in extended spring training games on Monday.
If all goes well, he should be ready to join the Red Sox during the third week of April. Ortiz has been on the disabled list since March 31 with heel inflammation. He'll make a fine fantasy option when healthy.
Source: Pete Abraham on Twitter Apr 3 - 5:26 PM

In-season Projections
Drew (concussion) could play in home opener
Stephen Drew (concussion) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday at Double-A Portland.
The current plan calls for Drew to play four rehab games with Double-A Portland and then join the Red Sox for their home opener on Monday, April 8 against the Orioles. Drew is on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

In-season Projections
Marcum (neck) will be examined on Thursday
Shaun Marcum (biceps, neck) is scheduled to be examined by a doctor on Thursday in New York.
Marcum was scratched from a scheduled simulated game on Tuesday because of pain that is running from his neck to his right shoulder. He was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with biceps tendinitis and has already been ruled out for his first turn in the Mets' rotation. Aaron Laffey is expected to fill in.
Source: Marc Carig on Twitter Apr 3 - 4:06 PM

In-season Projections
Nick Markakis batting third for O's Wednesday
Nick Markakis will bat third Wednesday against the Rays.
Markakis hit leadoff in Tuesday's season opener against left-hander David Price, but Orioles manager Buck Showalter has made some changes with Rays right-hander Jeremy Hellickson pitching on Wednesday. Nate McLouth will move up to the leadoff spot while the heart of the order will all be pushed back one spot. Manny Machado remains in the No. 2 spot.
Source: Brittany Ghiroli on Twitter Apr 3 - 3:54 PM

In-season Projections
O's made extension offer to C Matt Wieters
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Orioles recently offered a multi-year extension to catcher Matt Wieters, but a deal doesn't appear imminent.
The exact financial terms aren't known, but the offer was believed to be for five years. Wieters is under team control though 2015, so the Orioles are looking to buy out at least his first two years of free agency. The 26-year-old backstop figures to benefit from Buster Posey's recent extension with the Giants.
Source: CBS Sports Apr 3 - 3:46 PM

In-season Projections
Reds place Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) on DL
Reds placed OF Ryan Ludwick on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 2, with a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Ludwick had surgery Wednesday to repair the shoulder and is expected to be sidelined for at least the next three months. Derrick Robinson will take his place on the roster while Chris Heisey figures to get most of the starts in left field.
Apr 3 - 3:29 PM

In-season Projections
Brandon Phillips to bat cleanup for Reds
Brandon Phillips will take over the cleanup spot for the Reds following Ryan Ludwick's shoulder injury.
Phillips batted second in Monday's season opener, but Reds manager Dusty Baker already has to make some adjustments now that Ludwick is expected to be sidelined until July. It's not clear who will replace him in the No. 2 spot, but Zack Cozart is the most likely candidate. While it's probably a mistake to keep Cozart that high in the order, at least Phillips is in an excellent position to drive in runs behind Joey Votto.
Source: Bob Nightengale on Twitter Apr 3 - 2:43 PM

In-season Projections
Freese (back) to begin rehab stint Thursday
David Freese (back) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Memphis.
Freese was originally expected to play in extended spring training games on Friday and Saturday, but there has been a change in plans. It's probably a better test for him, anyway. He's still hoping to be ready for the Cardinals' home opener on Monday, but it's not a sure thing yet.

In-season Projections
Yanks' prospect Hensley to have hip surgery
Yankees prospect right-hander Ty Hensley will miss 2-3 months following surgery Wednesday to correct an impingement in his right hip.
Dr. Bryan Kelly, who performed Alex Rodriguez’s recent hip surgery, will do the procedure. It's another tough break for Hensley, who was selected No. 30 overall by the Yankees last year, but had his bonus adjusted from $1.6 million to $1.2 million due to abnormalities in his right shoulder. If all goes well, he should be ready to join one of the team's short-season affiliates later this summer.

My sleeper this year is Oganda but after pitching today and giving up no runs and 10 K's he'll be off the sir real fast. If available grab him he carries an RP also. .

I had him and Perkins as my sleeper picks this year. I got them in a couple leagues so all is good for me also. Watch out for Freirs. I liked him last year and as a closer for now he will be good.

Don't be fooled by early successful or failure.  Those that will be will be. I love water cooler talk the first week when everyone frets over how long a slump will last. It's the first week of baseball. Lighten up already.

Lol...I still love the sound of "last place St Louis Cardinals" no matter what time of the year it is!  As much as I love baseball...can it be fall yet?
